KALYANIA: KEY PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

Here is an overview of the key activities and areas of impact of Kalyania:
Kalyania’s Educational Services
Among Kalyania’s educational initiatives, a notable project is the school for the underprivileged children named Kalyania Suhasini Shishu Niketan.
Under the leadership of Advisor Mrs. Sati Choudhury and Principal Shrimati Chaitali Chakraborty with the assistance of Teacher-in-Charge Mrs. Arpita Chakraborty, and most importantly, under the dedicated care of sincere teachers, around 130 children from pre-primary to Class IV receive education entirely free of cost.
In addition to imparting academic curriculum, all necessary study materials such as books, notebooks, pens, pencils, school bags, shoes, socks, and uniforms (for both summer and winter) are provided completely free of charge. Furthermore, students are served midday meal including nutritious food to take care of their health and well-being.
Kalyania Kala-Kendra
Under the leadership of Mrs. Shamita Goswami and Mrs. Sudeshna Ghorai and Shri Biswanath De, nearly 120 students express their inner feelings through colors and brushstrokes at this free Art Centre. Alongside, they are also taught handicrafts, dance, music, and recitation. Kalyania Kala-Kendra serves as a platform for nurturing the latent talents of children. The financial support of MEDHA (USA) in this endeavor deserves special mention. The services of the dance teacher, Shrimati Saswati Bose and the music teacher Shrimati Anusuya Barua also deserve special mention.
Kalyania Debi Sengupta Coaching Centre for Girls:
Through this centre, educational support is provided to girl students from Class IX to Class XII. Dedicated teachers offer coaching to help them achieve good results in examinations. In this regard, the financial contribution made by Shri Prasanta Sengupta in fond memory of his late wife Debi Sengupta, deserves special mention. We are deeply saddened by the sad demise of Prashanta Ranjan Sengupta in the month of March 2025.
ASHA FOR EDUCATION (USA): With the support of ASHA FOR EDUCATION (USA), subject-specific teachers provide additional academic assistance to girl students from Class II to Class VIII. Through the dedicated efforts of the coaching centre’s teachers, the students have developed a keen interest in their studies. Moreover, the girls receive training in yoga and karate at the Kamala SenguptaMemorial Self-Defence Training Centre.
Training Camp; Empowerment: Kalyania’s Various Training Centres:
With the objective of making women from underdeveloped areas financially and emotionally self- reliant Care-giver training programmes have been introduced.  Through this training, the women have become more self-dependent and empowered.
 Kalyania Sewing Training Center:
Under the leadership of Shri Supriya Pal and with the support of ASHA for EDUCATION (USA), the “Basic Sewing Training” program for women has achieved encouraging success. Under the supervision of Mrs. Dipanwita Basu Adhikari, training of fabric work has also been introduced this year for interested participants. Out of 15 trainees, 12 has successfully completed the fabric work training and were awarded certificates.
Kalyania Adult Education Center:
Under the leadership of Mrs. Gayatri Chatterjee, Mrs. Kabita Basu, Shrimati Sudeshna Ghorai and Shrimati Mita Baidya and representatives of Bhalo Kothar Asor, classes in Bengali, English, Mathematics, and General Knowledge were initiated for interested women of the Old Age Home. We are committed to continuing this initiative. The enthusiasm shown by the women in this regard has been highly encouraging.
Kalyania Scholarship Program:
From Class V upto college, university or technical education, 70 meritorious and underprivileged students are awarded a monthly scholarship ranging from Rs. 300 to Rs. 1000. The number of well- wishers interested in supporting this initiative is steadily increasing. Many of these scholarships are awarded in memory of the donors’ close relatives. In special cases, additional scholarships are provided to students in need of higher education support.
Kalyania Mothers’ Awareness Camp:
To create awareness among women from underdeveloped areas about various domestic and social and health issues, Kalyania has been conducting Mothers’ Awareness Camps on a regular basis. The consistent participation of women in these sessions has helped them become more confident and self-assured. Many enthusiastic participants also take part in the Republic Day celebrations in the city, presenting tableaux to spread social awareness. Encouragingly, on the first Saturday of every month, women attend the Mothers’ Awareness Camp in significant numbers. Renowned doctors are invited to these sessions to discuss important aspects of maternal awareness.
Kalyania Health Welfare Services:
At the SuryakumarRay and Kajal Bhattacharya Charitable Clinic patients receivededicated services of specialist doctors associated with Kalyania. At present, this clinic provides regular consultations throughout the week in multiple departments including epilepsy, neurology, diabetes, psychiatry, dental, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and general medicine. In addition, free medicines are distributed to patients as per availability.
With regard to psychiatric care, Kalyania runs an effective program in collaboration with SodepurManab Sangbed. In the ophthalmology unit, doctors and optometrists from Sree Sarada Ashram (Gayeshpur) attend patients regularly every Monday. Dr. S. N. Banerjee and Dr. S.B. Lahiri have been offering long-term treatment for epilepsy and diabetes respectively at this clinic, successfully restoring many patients to good health. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the doctors for their voluntary and selfless medical services.
Additional Health Welfare Services:
For healthcare needs, essential medical support items such as Fowler’s cot, oxygen cylinders, nebulizers, air-beds, walkers, and wheelchairs are provided at a minimal service charge. The funds thus, collected are utilized by the Kalyania Charitable Clinic to purchase medicines for underprivileged patients. Throughout the year, various health camps and seminars are organized. Notable among these are health check-ups for senior citizens, eye camps, orthopaedic camps, and diabetes camps. These initiatives have been greatly supported by Dr. Debapi Roy under the Kalyani Orthopaedic Club,SaltLake FE Block Amiya Education camp in association with Sushrut Eye Hospital & Welfare Society, Indian Medical Association (Kalyani Chapter), and AIIMS Kalyani.
Kalyania Old Age Home (Prabeenabas)
With the generous contributions of well-wishers, Kalyania has been able to establish a 26-bed old age home at the following buildings viz., B-1/275 (owned), B-1/388 (owned), and B-1/396 (rented). The boarders of this Kalyania Old Age Homes also known as Prabeenabas, actively participate in various programs organized by Kalyania, contributing to the overall success of these events. The old age homes are operated by Kalyania on a “No profit No Loss” basis.
Kalyania “Bhalokothar Asor” (Assembly for positive discourse)
For the happiness, comfort, and recreation of the boarders of the Old Age Home, this forum has been organized under the leadership of Mrs. Sudeshna Ghorai and Mrs. Mita Baidya. The enthusiastic participation of members in the “Bhalokothar Asor” is truly commendable. By taking part in the pujas, festivals, and various cultural events held throughout the year within the premises of Kalyania, the residents’ lifestyle becomes more meaningful and enriched.
Distribution of Various Supplies by Kalyania:
On the occasion of Durga Puja, with the generous contributions of well-wishers, Kalyania distributed new clothing to underprivileged senior citizens, children of Kalyania Suhasini Shishu Niketan, students of the Kalyania Kala Kendra and coaching centres, as well as members of the Nakashipara Nirmal Hriday Samiti. In addition, usable old clothes and other collected essential items were distributed across various parts of the state, particularly among the poor in the remote villages of Purulia named Bhalopahar and also other areas of Ayodhya Pahar, Kalna, Katwa and Murshidabad.
